This symbol represents the SkyDome. The design is made with superimposed semi-circles, representing the three levels of the Iroquois cosmos: the Celestial world, our world and the world of darkness. The two volutes (spiral curls) symbolize either the Celestial tree or the life-long struggle between good and evil (represented by the twins) that we all have within ourselves.
The Celestial Tree or Tree of Peace stood in the center of the Celestial world, where it produced flowers and fruits in abundance. When it was uprooted, Sky Woman fell through the hole it made. During her fall, she grasped the roots of the tree and brought with her gifts from the sky: tobacco and strawberries.
