Create a simple refection effect with a bit of a 3d effect, I ‘ve seen this tutorial done many times but i rarely see this effect taken to the next level, also since reflections are distorted 90% of the time, they may be squeezed, bent, or swirled out of proportion , But thats a matter of taste i suppose. In this tutorial i will be adding a bit of perspective to create the illusion of 3d space, As well as shrinking the reflection for added distortion. Here we go:

  • STEP 1: Create your document (300×175) and place your text (text used: Velvenda Cooler)

  • STEP 2: Duplicate the Layer

  • STEP 3: Select the new layer and go to Edit -> Transform -> Flip Vertical.

Then drag down and place the flipped text below Your original Text:

  • STEP 4: Create a New Layer, Above the bottom layer text:

  • STEP 5: Set the color that you use in the background (white in this case) as your Foreground Color.

  • STEP 6: Select the Gradient Tool (G) and on the top side options, select the type of gradient. We will use Foreground to Transparent.

  • STEP 7: Apply the gradient from the bottom of flipped text to the center

If you need to do it one more time but with a broader range , You should have something like that:

  • STEP 8 : Select the Layer with the reflection, and set the Layer Opacity to 60%
  • STEP 9 : Select all layers but the background, Press shift on the bottom layer and once again at the top of the list.

Now RIGHT Click on the selection and select CONVERT TO SMART OBJECT then RASTERIZE TYPE.

  • STEP 10 : Select new flattened layer and then, Go to: EDIT>TRANSFORM>PERSPECTIVE

  • STEP 11 : Select the layer, now press and hold the ALT button then press larrow.jpg then uparrow.jpg twice each.
  • FINAL STEP : Set the top layer to SCREEN and wipe your brow that was a toughie : )
